Gender balance in the labor market as a condition for sustainable development": ISTU at the international conference

inMar 18, 2024

In recent decades, gender equality has become one of the key topics in the global dialogue on social justice and development. A particularly important aspect is gender equality in education, which has turned into a decisive factor in building a just and progressive society.

That is why ISTU decided to take advantage of the opportunity and visit the conference "Gender balance in the labor market as a condition for sustainable development", which was organized by the Kyiv Institute of Business and Technology. This is an international scientific and practical conference based on the results of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Economics. ISTU was represented at this event by Rector Veronika Yuriivna Khudoley.

The program of the event was extremely rich:

  • International experience of supporting women's entrepreneurship;
  • Claudia Goldin's research - the search for gender balance in the labor market;
  • Economics of the labor market: gender aspect;
  • Gender policy as a tool for ensuring women's equal labor rights;
  • Global labor market trends and Ukrainian realities;
  • Future of skills and much more.

However, ISTU, as a leading Ukrainian institution of higher education, was particularly interested in the topic "Educational industry - has gender balance been achieved?". Finally, the audience of the conference had the opportunity to listen to speakers on the topics "Economic potential of women in the reconstruction of the country" and "Digital trends: challenges and opportunities".

The importance of this conference for Ukraine should be considered in particular in the context of global transformations, where our country is a key participant, which provides it with the status of a central figure in this process.

In particular, during the war, the role of women received a new context, and our country became an example for the whole world. The important contribution of Claudia Goldin, the Nobel laureate in economics for researching the causes of gender inequality in the labor market, is one of the main reasons for holding this conference.

During the event, the participants, together with international experts, scientists and practitioners, conducted an in-depth analysis of the problem, studied successful and already implemented practices, and discussed finding ways to overcome gender inequality, based on objective research on the role of women in the labor market.

ISTU believes that the conference "Gender balance in the labor market as a factor of sustainable development" can become an important place for active discussions, creation of new concepts and development of strategies that will change the landscape of the future labor market.

All participants had the opportunity to discuss key aspects, challenges and opportunities for ensuring gender equality in the field of work, taking into account the latest scientific achievements and the experience of Nobel Prize laureates.

The task of the conference is to promote the development of strategies aimed at increasing the role of women in the economy and ensuring equal participation in all spheres of professional activity.

ISTU was sincerely glad to join such an important event for the country. This is a unique chance to feel involved in the global dialogue about gender balance and its impact on the sustainable development of society moving towards European values.
