ISTU and production practice from Abto Software: protection of student projects 2024

inMar 07, 2024

On March 6, students of the 3rd year of the specialties "Software Engineering" and "Computer Science" of groups I-11, I-12, K-11 defended their projects, which they created during industrial practice with ISTU teacher Oleksandr Makoveychuk.

Oleksandr Mykolayovych Makoveichuk – technical leader of R&D projects at Abto Software, Doctor of Technical Sciences. And this is already the third production practice organized by the leading company Abto Software, in which Oleksandr Makoveychuk works in the R&D department.

Abto Software's contribution to the development of Ukrainian "digital creators"

We noted that the production practice is organized by the leading company Abto Software. It is a full-cycle custom software development company. It was founded in 2007. It confidently holds the status of a reliable long-term software development partner for customers in North America and EU through high quality delivery and business continuity.

The team believes that investing in employees and the environment can build a successful company and society. That is why they regularly sponsor initiatives that motivate and inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

In particular, we will mention the AI&CV Summer Camp from Abto Software. This is a themed summer intensive (usually one month long) that covers the basic theoretical and practical foundations of Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence. Summer Camp takes place under the guidance of experienced R&D specialists.

This is a great opportunity for students interested in the topics of computer vision, machine learning and artificial intelligence to take an intensive course of lectures, as well as work on the development of their own projects. ISTU students have not yet had the opportunity to join the AI&CV Summer Camp, but we believe that everything is just ahead.

Practice: student achievements for 2022-2024

Each year, the industrial internship program focuses on different aspects. It:

  • the basics of working with Google Colab
  • python basics,
  • basics of Computer Vision;
  • Basic operations with images
  • Image convolution, 2D image filtering;
  • Machine Learning and the basics of working with convolutional neural networks, etc.

For the past few years, the practice has been protected online due to the security situation in the country.

The whole process is based on teamwork on projects. In particular, during last year's internships, students worked on the following project ideas:

  • "Mask detection";
  • "Determining the balance of money by photo/video".

This year, 2024 volunteers joined the production practice 15. Among the implemented and presented projects were the following:

  • "Detection of car numbers by images";
  • "Controlling a computer mouse using hand gestures";
  • "Recognition of emotions in images";
  • "Gesture-controlled facial blurring system";
  • "Resolving Sudoku by photo";
  • "Recognition of fingers on the camera and their counting, a virtual keyboard with the ability to write text and a virtual calculator."

From practice to employment in a few steps

Note that this is real experience with a good possibility of further employment. After all, an interesting and qualitatively executed idea in combination with a professional presentation of the results can bring a chance to consider the student's candidacy for further employment.

In particular, past internship students received a job offer at Abto Software.

ISTU, as a leading institution of higher education, wants to provide its students with a wide range of opportunities for professional realization and acquisition of practical skills in the field of their choice. This production practice is one such opportunity, which has been gathering around itself ideological, inspired and promising "digital creators" for three years.

We are grateful to all enterprising and inspired students who this year joined the production practice, developed and defended their own author's projects. All of them are performed at the highest level of professionalism. Your creative approach combined with a decent level of professional training and a professional approach to the case inspires all participants of the practice not to stop there and to continue to act further. We hope that you fully demonstrated your own skills and gained new important insights for potential professional realization and employment.
