inFebruary 21, 2023

From February 21 to 24, an educational training on the topic "Global Eco-Industrial Parks Program" will be held in Vienna, regarding the tools of eco-industrial parks (EIP), actual results and ways of their further development.

The global program of eco-industrial parks in Ukraine: implementation at the local level is implemented by GEIPP and UNIDO, a special agency of the United Nations Organization for Industrial Development. The purpose of UNIDO is to promote industrial development and accelerated industrialization of developing countries by mobilizing national and international resources.

As part of cooperation with UNIDO, last year ISTU implemented a study of the impact of the policy of eco-industrial parks in Ukraine on the order of UNIDO. This year, our university was also invited to take part in the training. The university is represented by ISTU rector Veronika Yuriivna Khudoley.

The purpose of the educational seminar is to receive advice for the potential development of eco-industrial parks in Ukraine, exchange of experience in the development of such park systems between representative countries.

Waiting for the group:

  • Acquaintance with the work of UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization): meeting with Jerome Stookey (UNIDO head of circular economy); Christian Susan - GEIPP program manager and Rana Pratap Singh - GEIPP-Ukraine project manager;
  • Lecture on acquired skills in EIP development;
  • "Main achievements and trends of the EIP national policy in Ukraine";
  • Lessons learned and obstacles in the implementation of the EIP policy in other countries;
  • Understanding and meeting the needs of industrial park management and the national economy;
  • Creating a legal environment for the implementation of EIP;
  • EIP policy action plan development and implementation. How to involve the local private sector in discussions and more.

In addition, the seminar participants will visit the eco-industrial parks of Austria and Poland and get acquainted with their structure, development, activities, policies and strategies.

Such a scientific seminar will help to more clearly distinguish the importance and necessity of creating eco-industrial parks, analyze the methods of their implementation, theoretical problems and integration into the social, political, legal, and economic life of the country. ISTU, as a responsible representative of the educational cluster, understands the importance of the issues raised by UNIDO representatives and the need for the development of eco-industrial parks in Ukraine.
